Meserve hollies, also known as blue hollies, are a hybrid cross of ilex rugosa and ilex aquifolium. They are more cold hardy compared to other hollies, make privacy screens, are deer and rabbit resistant, and low maintenance. These hollies provide year-round interest with their deep, lustrous blue-green foliage and vibrant red berries on female cultivars. Meserve hollies have stiffer, spiky leaves. They are also dioecious, meaning both male and female cultivars exist, in which both are needed for the female plants to bear fruit. Hollies listed are designated with an 'f' for female, 'm' for male, or 'm/f' for cultivars that can be female or male.
