Deutzia, also known as Slender Deutzia or Japanese Snow Flower, is a compact, dense, flowering shrub in the hydrangea family that is native to Japan. It is tolerant in various well-drained soil conditions but prefers loamy soils with humus. Deutzia is good for use in small gardens, borders or low hedges in landscaping. It's small, fragrant, star-shaped flowers can be either white or pink and they grow on long, thin stems. Deutzia thrives best in full sun to maximize flowering. Pruning should be done right after flowering season ends to keep a neat appearance; keep in mind that new blooms appear on old growth.
