Blueberries

Vaccinium
​Plant blueberries if you want a shrub that has multi-seasonal ornamental appeal and benefit by enjoying its fruit! Most blueberry bushes have great fall color and appealing flowers in spring, Native varieties to the New England area are lowbush blueberries.

Bluecrop Vaccinium corymbosum
Zone: 4 to 8
Size: 6-7' Tall, 3-4' Wide
Flower: White or pink, bell-shaped
Fruit: Large clusters of powder blue, all-purpose berries that are firm and mildly sweet which are great for preserves, baking, freezing and eating fresh.
Foliage: Bright yellowish-green that turns to a fiery red in the fall.
Bloom Time: April through Late June
Harvest: Late June through July
Light: Full Sun

Self-pollinating; planting a second variety will yield a larger crop: Northland, Bluejay, or Bluegold

Zone: 4 to 7
Size: 6-7' Tall, 3-4' Wide
Flower: White, bell-shaped
Fruit: Flavorful, medium-sized, powdery light blue berries; good for fresh-eating, baking, sauces
Foliage: Ovate, medium green leaves turn attractive shades of yellow-orange to red and purple in fall; reddish stems can be attractive in winter

Flower: Pink, an ideal pollinator for most other varieties
Fruit: Extra-large, firm light blue berries with an extra-sweet taste.
